Dover Street Market, the popular retail concept by fashion designer Rei Kawakubo and her advent-garde label COMME des GARÇONS, is finally coming to Tokyo, setting up shop right next door to the world’s largest Uniqlo flagship store.
On the 16th March 2012, Uniqlo’s new Ginza flagship store in Tokyo will quietly dethrone the just opened 5th Avenue store as the retail chain’s largest store. As part of the revival of the historical Ginza Komatsu Department Store, Uniqlo Ginza will occupy all twelve floors of an entire wing of the complex.
The North Face of Japan asked five notable cultural influencers to materialize a concept, in effect a personal time capsule, of which they would hand down to the next generation.
Jiro Dreams of Sushi is the story of 85 year-old Jiro Ono, considered by many to be the world’s greatest sushi chef. Operating out of a small sushi bar inside Ginza station, the sushi chef is regarding as a national treasure, and is the first to receive 3 Michelin Stars.
Although sharply dividing critics (we found it both captivating and tedious at times) it’s hard to deny that Gaspar Noé’s depiction of the darker side of Tokyo is visually stunning. The title sequence sets the tone with machine-gun precision; Art of the Title’s interview with sequence designer Tom Kan sheds some light on the design process.
